Publications include: Adam Smith: The Rhetoric of Propriety (SUNY, 2005); World's Greatest Speeches, 4th ed. (Dover, 1999). Dr. McKenna has published articles on Adam Smith, the rhetoric of advertising, and U.S. presidential rhetoric.

Research interests include:  18th-century Anglo-Scots & American rhetoric, aesthetics and ethics; visual rhetoric; rhetoric of propaganda and advertising, Girardian mimetic theory.
